SYMPATHY:
L. C. Lindsay & Family
The church extends Chris— tam sympathy to the fo1 lowing families who have lost
loved ones,
Mrs. Enda Brown, a brother-in-law
George Wallace, an uncle Mrs. W, A, W0 Carden, a brother,
This Sunday is Mothers Day; a time when our 1er turn to home and family The
Christian family is the basis unit of society and there is no privilege greater
than that of being a vital part of a family and a home where there is love and
understanding; a place of rest from the days toil; a p,ace of security and
protection from the pressures of the outside world, Home and family seems so
much a part of most of us that we rarely remember that there are many children
and youth who do not enjoy this relationship 0
One of our most vital ministries is our children’s home ministry. Into our four
homes are invited boys and girls who are otherwise denied the security of home,
These youth are afforded the finest care that can be given outside the home, In
order for that care to continue, we must share in the expense. What more fitting
time than Mother’s Day to give a worthy offering to our Chi1drens Homes in order
that those boys and girls who do not have parents such as we, may have the next
best thing - the shelter and care provided by our four Tennessee Baptist
Children’s Homes,
See you in church Sunday0

A PERSONAL MESSAGE TO THE PEOPLE OF LAFOLLETTE AND CAMPBELL COUNTY
LaFollette is in a medical crisis--and has been for several years. Unless we act
NOW, the crisis can only get worse. You all know the inconvenience of our doctor
shortioverflowing waiting rooms, hours spent waiting to see the doctor, lack of
any specialists in our city, forcing you to go to )(noxville, Oak Ridge or some
other city to get specialized medical treatment.
This situation didn’t develop overnight. We have only six practicing doctors in
LaFollette now. They are good men, but they simply can’t meet the growing demand
for our medical treatment.
The solution: MORE DOCTORS FOR LaFOLLETTE.
How to get more doctors here? The answer that your city commission, hospital
board and medical staff and a committee of interested citizens proposes is
construction of a MEDICAL ARTS BUILDING adjoining the LaFollette Community
Hospital to provide rental office space for doctors who wish to locate in
LaFollette.
Why rental space? The answer is simple: after completing an expensive medical
education, few new doctors can a—ford the cost--about $100,000--of building and
equipping an office. Instead, they join a medical group which already has
facilities or move into rental space provided by other cities. It’s simply a
matter of economics. And other areas--Harriman, Loudon, Rockwood, Athens, for
example--have proved that such a building will attract new doctors to a comunity.
How much will it cost? Estimates are that the total cost of building and
equipment for the facility will be $600,000. There will be space for 12 doctors
for a total cost of about $50,000 per doctor--about half what each would have to
spend if he built private offices. An added bonus is that the office building
will be located so that the doctors will use the existing X-ray and Laboratory
in the hospital, generating more revenue for the hospital.
How will this building be paid for? Each doctor will pay rent on his office, and
the rental payments are expected to repay the bonds which will be sold to
finance construction. The hospital board has agreed to meet any deficit from
income of the hospital.
How can you help? By voting YES for the Medical Arts Building Referendum on May
17. But don’t stop at that! Encourage your friends and neighbors to vote YES. It
is absolutely essential for the future of LaFollette and the quality of medical
care that each of us deserves that this referendum passes. A three-fourths
majority is required for passage, so EVERY vote counts.
If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact a city commissioner,
hospital board member, the Chamber of Commerce or the chairman of this
committee.
COMMITTEE
Sincerely,
Chai rman
