FROM THE PASTOR S DESK
“We hold these truthes self—evident that all men are created equal and that :
areendowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness0”
Those words come from axe of the best knowm documents of modern times, the Declaration of Independence, adopted by the 13 colonies on July 4, 1776. One of the most important political statements of all time, thatdocument ends with these significant words:
“And for the support of thisdeclaration, with the firm reliance on the Pro— tectionof Divine Providexe, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor0” So came into being one of our grandest national holidays 0
Today, on this fourth of July, on the eve of our 200th birthday, let us make another Declaration a De claration of Dependence. How can any expression of independence be made unless we re—discover our dependence on God to provide for our daily needs; to point the way through a muddled maze of life’s uncertainties; to sustain us through times of human weakness; to give hope and
encuragement in times bf dispair. The “unalienable rights” of man to “life, liberty and pursuit of happiness” are endownts that truly comes from God alone0 Let’s recognize Him in worship and Service this holiday0
